EuProGigant was part of the recent Gaia-X Magazine which explored current developments and updates from the Association and the member and lighthouse projects.

Vienna, 10 June 2024. EuProGigant was prominently featured in the recent edition of the Gaia-X Magazine which was published in June 2024. The magazine gave updates on recent developments of the Gaia-X standard, the respective association (AISBL) and the underlying members / users.

EuProGigant as a lighthouse representative

The EuProGigant research project and the ecosystem surrounding it were featured as a lighthouse story in the recent edition of the magazine. This time the focus lied on introducing EuProGigant itself and clearly illustrating the progress the project made since its origination.

Afterwards, the article showcases EuProGigant´s positive contributions to a sustainable future by focusing on the CO₂ footprint prediction and calculation use case of the research project. This is particularly relevant as recent legislative changes such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D) require companies operating within the EU to disclose and follow stronger environmental regulations.

The use case offers significant potential as it shows how each supply chain participant needs to implement an emission structure which is conducted via the Pathfinder Framework V2.0. Furthermore, the actual prediction service is then offered as a web application that can adapt the production scenarios according to the input. The use case uses the example of assessing the CO₂ footprint along the supply chain of injection-molded parts which aligns with EuProGigant´s focus on the manufacturing industry.

This entire approach and solution are in line with the Gaia-X principles and while using a federated catalogue and a Gaia-X Clearing House (GXDCH). Thus, this use case showcased a prime example of how Gaia-X and the respective research project are contributing to a greener future.

About EuProGigant

EuProGigant stands for the “European Production Giganet for Disaster-Resilient Self-Orchestration of Value-Added and Learning Ecosystems.” This binational project began on March 1, 2021, and runs for four years. The goal is to establish a cross-location, digitally networked production ecosystem. It is part of Austria’s “FTI Offensive Big Data in Production” program, supported by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation, and Technology (BMK), as well as Germany’s “Development of Digital Technologies” program from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). EuProGigant is a registered EU-wide trademark of TU Wien and TU Darmstadt, both in word and image.

EuProGigant is supported by a consortium from Austria and Germany. The consortium leaders are the Pilot Factory Industry 4.0 at TU Wien and the Institute for Production Management, Technology, and Machine Tools at TU Darmstadt.
