Roland Fadrany, COO of the Gaia-X Association for Data and Cloud (AISBL) was interviewed in the recent “The Art of Making” podcast by EIT Manufacturing. It shed light on the importance of Gaia-X for the manufacturing industry and the future steps of the Gaia-X framework.
Vienna, December 10, 2024. In the most recent “The Art of Making” podcast series by EIT Manufacturing, hosted by Maxim Luc Mommerency, Roland Fadrany, current COO of Gaia-X Association for Data and Cloud (AISBL) was invited to share the importance of data sharing for different industries.
Initially, Roland Fadrany explained the role of Gaia-X for data sharing initiatives in a European context. Gaia-X offers a trust framework which enables secure and sovereign data sharing across different companies or industries without risking confidential data by creating duplicates. The importance of Gaia-X evident due to the scale of global supply chains in the current international landscape.
Furthermore, the podcast discussed why it is crucial for companies to retain control of their data in the digitised world. Roland stressed that it is essential to ensure data sovereignty. This trend further sparked the development of digital twins or AI models which showcase how innovation can be supported by data spaces. Additionally, the Gaia-X framework can act like a `passport´ for the relevant data which also hones a shared understanding of the different data space participants.
Manufacturing use cases were also illustrated using the example of the aerospace industry. Data spaces can benefit such companies by reducing production cost while also enhancing the overall product quality. This aspect is particularly relevant for companies and projects operating within the manufacturing industry as it opens doors for future innovation and improvements.
Next, the international reach of Gaia-X was topic of interest. Current developments show a growing interest in the Gaia-X framework as participation from countries such as Japan and South Korea. This showcases the drive towards international cooperation to stay competitive across borders. In order to facilitate these collaborations different hubs are established in the respective countries. These hubs then connect local providers and users, supporting SMEs with accessible resources in their native languages.
Lastly, the next steps for Gaia-X were elaborated. In the near future Gaia-X will improve the data exchange protocols. Also, there are plans to provide low-barrier solutions for SMEs to assist them with adopting the Gaia-X framework. Furthermore, more international cooperation was viewed essential to bring Gaia-X to the next level. Thus, the future plans involve harmonising global trust frameworks.
